Her practice in London designs homes around one idea: the sound a room makes when nobody is in it.
Tara Venkat left Chennai for London at twenty-two to study architecture and stayed to build a practice of nine people near King's Cross.
Her houses are known for thick walls, deep windows and rooms that are quieter than the street outside by a margin clients notice the moment the door closes.
"Silence is a material," she says. "I just draw it."
She takes on four houses a year, and she visits every site once a week until the keys are handed over.
“Silence is a material. I just draw it.”
